+-INDIA 2018 Caterpillar offers a broad line of under- ground hard rock mining vehicles includ- ing five different sizes of underground loaders and four different capacities of underground trucks to accommodate a wide range of mine openings and produc- tion requirements. All of the vehicles use proven Cat engines and drive trains for efficient, reliable operation and extended durability. Each of the machines comes with the product support capabilities of the local Cat dealer — to keep machines producing at lowest cost per ton. The Cat underground loader, or LHD, line ranges from 6,800-kg payload to 20,000-kg payload. In the middle of the range is the 15,000-kg-payload R1700, which was recently commercially launched after proving its capabilities in extensive field trials. A completely new Caterpillar design, the R1700 loader benefitted from the use of engineering talent from across the company to bring new levels of productivity, operator comfort and serviceability to underground miners. Compared to the previous model, the new R1700 carries 20% more material with each pass. Increased digging forces add further to its production capabilities as does superior machine balance. The new traction control system, which uses the new electrohydraulic braking sys- tem, limits tire slip going into the pile. The result is longer tire life and reduced tire costs. Also, Auto Dig — fully automated bucket loading — helps new operators be productive the first day and reduces fatigue for experienced operators. The R1700 also features operator presence and door latch monitoring for enhanced safety. The new R1700 also delivers signifi- cant technology enhancements. Three dif- ferent engine emissions configurations can be tailored to the mine's ventilation needs. The new Cat line-of-sight remote control console promotes productive operation. The R1700 also is equipped with multiple subsystems for fast technology implemen- tation. Remote machine health monitoring, payload monitoring and other technology options are available. The Cat line of underground articulat- ed trucks is well matched to Cat loaders. Four truck models offer payload capacities ranging from 22,000 to 60,000 kg. Caterpillar recently introduced the AD22 Articulated Truck with a 22-met- ric-ton (mt) capacity. The newest addition to the Cat underground truck line is Caterpillar's smallest, but it's designed to deliver the performance and durability of its larger counterparts. It also offers the largest payload in the size class. Developed in response to customer demand for a truck that can work produc- tively in compact spaces, the AD22 is a robust truck capable of maneuvering in smaller mines. Its small operating enve- lope and agile characteristics, including 45-degree articulation and decreased outside turning radius, enhance produc- tivity when working in limited spaces. An oscillating hitch helps absorb haul road irregularities and enables the operator to maintain greater speed and control. Like its larger counterparts, the AD22 makes best use of proven Cat compo- nents, such as the Tier 3 equivalent C11 diesel engine. The durable engine delivers gross power of 242 kW. Coupled to the C11 is a Cat heavy-duty torque converter with an automatic lock-up clutch and Cat planetary powershift transmission. These components are responsible for the nimble performance, speed on grade and all- wheel drive capabilities of the truck. The truck is available with an open operator compartment or an optional enclosed cab. The sweeping deck design provides the operator with good sight lines around the front of the truck. An operator present system automatically sets the park- ing brake and shuts down the engine if the operator fails to apply the brake before exiting the cab. Multiple dump body sizes are available to optimize the truck for every applica- tion and to help mines achieve the tar- get payload based on material density. Dump bodies come in 9, 10, 11 and 12 cubic-meter sizes. An ejector body of 9.7 cubic meters is also offered. The AD22 offers a three-pass match to the Cat R1300G underground loader or a two- pass match to the R1600H.
